The Passive {Bird} House

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Completed in Summer 2016, The Passive {Bird} House is Passive House Certified, Net Zero, foam-free new construction in Western Maryland. Project Architect while at Brennan + Company Architects. Passive to Positive served as Passive House Consultant.

energy + iaq:

The home is super insulated with cellulose filled TJI walls; the first rockwool slab below slab insulation in the country; rockwool on exterior of foundation walls; cellulose filled attic; triple-glazed windows; ducted mini-split and whole house ERV; solar panels make this home Net Zero.

materials + iaq:

No foam was used on the insulation and air seal of this house; natural, recycled and salvaged materials used; daylight; constant, filtered fresh air.

water:

Water efficient fixtures were installed, including dual-flush toilets, capture of rain cisterns for irrigation of native landscape.

site:

The landscape was rewilded for the birds.
